- Copake Project - A Wingback…Before and After

For an interior design project in Copake, NY, we transformed a classic and very beat-up wingback into a unique reading chair.
The image featured above was part of our inspiration. Our clients stayed at the Hotel Egilsen in Iceland–a historic house built in 1867–and fell in love with its aesthetic. We looked to recreate a similar cozy atmosphere in their Copake house with details like needlepoint textiles and vintage furniture.
Our clients have an appreciation and love for needlepoint so when we found this fabric by Pierre Frey–featured above–we were delighted to share it with them.
Above is the original chair, which I picked up at an estate sale. It had a crewel embroidered fabric that must have been very cute in its day–but less so in 2024. The shape was classic and the frame was solid.
It also had a matching footstool! In the image above, you can see us testing new finish colors for the wood.
We decided to upholster the back and sides of the chair in a solid linen. This adds a tailored look and is a nice contrast to the allover embroidery covering the front of the chair.
Pink piping adds a bit of playfulness and stands out against the solid olive back. Coming Soon….more highlights from our Copake project!
