I thought it might be high time to re-introduce myself to my readers! I’m Rachael Rosenblum, the founder of Double R Design.
That’s me on the left at 7 years old. My big brother is in the middle and my twin sis is on the right. Since, before that age I knew I wanted to be a fashion designer. That’s what I did–for brands like Banana Republic and Express–for almost 20 years before I left to start Double R.
I had two kids: Maxine in 2014 and Lucian in 2016. It was around then that I started thinking that I wanted to leave the world of fast fashion.
I became interested in furniture specifically when I inherited the armchair above from my grandmother and decided to do the reupholstery myself. As a kid, I used to sink into this piece when I spent the night in my Grandma Barbara’s guest room.
I went on a textile journey to choose the fabric and settled on a woven Mexican Otomi pattern. I stripped the wood and did everything in my living room.
I fell in love with the process and the idea of taking this vintage piece of furniture, a relic from my youth, and giving it a new life.
Our design work is based on this idea: creating something fresh and vibrant from furniture from the past. We continue to evolve, too–in addition to doing furniture restoration, Double R Design creates one-of-a-kind custom-crafted pieces and provides interior design services as well.
