Step Out of the Norm with a Mural

At one of our recent interior design projects, a lovely new construction apartment in Prospect Heights, my clients had designed an office that adjoined to their bedroom. The bedroom, featured above, was flooded with natural light. But the office was windowless. To give the office natural light, they created a partition that opens in the wall dividing the office from the bedroom.
The partition was constructed in plain wood. I had to design a way to incorporate these doors into the room. Wallpaper wouldn’t work to cover it–there were too many points of friction causing it to peel. Staining the wood felt heavy and uninteresting. So we decided to hire someone to paint a mural over both sides of the partition.
We found the brilliant painter, Rowan Willigan to design and paint a mural that felt both organic to the space and dynamic. Here she is featured above sitting next to one of the murals that attracted us to her work.
This is the mural she did for us.
Rowan’s line-work adds a sense of movement to the space. The design of the bedroom is clean and modern. The mural adds a fun juxtaposition to this order.
Above is the perspective from inside of the office.
For us, the best design features come from creative solutions to unique problems. The mural makes an already beautiful bedroom extra special.
